Sethurathnam Ravi, former chairman of BSE and Founder of accountancy firm Ravi Rajan & Co, speaks about ways to invest in international mutual funds and how to choose a fund. “Investors intending to invest in foreign stocks can go through domestic mutual funds who have schemes mandated to invest in foreign stocks”, says former BSE Chairman, S Ravi. Investment in international mutual fund is getting more popular as it is generally believed that all global stocks will not fall together in normal circumstances. Investments in global stocks can be made through direct investments, ETFs, global mutual funds and fund of funds.

According to him, this category is quite popular as investing in global mutual funds, the investors hedge their risk by investing in domestic as well as global stocks. International mutual funds invest in various countries and stocks including domestic stocks. Domestic fund houses also provide access to investment in global companies under various schemes floated specifically for such investments.

The schemes are well defined and the characteristics of the product offering are defined in the key information memorandum which is approved by SEBI. The process of investment is simple and similar to investment in domestic mutual funds. Technology has been the catalyst which has enabled investors to invest in a faster hassle-free environment. In the year of pandemic and lockdown Mutual’s have upgraded the platforms so that there is no disruption.

Market can give back 8-10% in this round of selling: Samir Arora

As the market has seen some selling recently, Samir Arora, founder and fund manager at Helios Capital, believes this might not just be a blip on radar and more selling may be in the offing.

“It can lose 8-10 percent,” said Arora in an interview with CNBC TV-18. “If those guys (US Fed) increase their policy rates, that creates a lot of problems for RBI. Whether they should increase rates or if not then what to do with currency.”

Last week, US Fed chairman Jerome Powell in an extremely hawkish speech said the Fed will keep raising rates for a while as inflation has not come down to comfortable levels. Following his comments, shares fell like nine pins across the globe.

Most of the selling was seen in technology names. Indian IT stocks were also among the worst hit on Dalal Street as investors factored in prospects of lower growth in key markets for them – the US and Europe.

Thrilled 'to just to live in the moment,' Serena Williams begins US Open run with straight-sets win

NEW YORK -- Serena Williams' expected retirement will have to wait. The 23-time major champion won her first-round match 6-3, 6-3 over Danka Kovinic at the US Open on Monday night.

"You know, I always just got to do the best that I can," Williams said to the crowd after the match. "I feel so comfortable on this court, in front of everyone here.

"When I step out on the court, I just want to do my best that I can on that particular day. That's really all I can really do."

Since Williams, 40, announced her impending plans to "evolve" from tennis in a first-person essay in Vogue earlier this month, she has been given a farewell tour of sorts, and received standing ovations at both the Canadian Open and the Western & Southern Open.

On Monday night, the sold-out crowd here of nearly 24,000 -- which included a laundry list of A-list celebrities and notables, including former President Bill Clinton, Spike Lee, Lindsey Vonn, Bella Hadid, Rebel Wilson, Vera Wang, Mike Tyson, Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Gladys Knight, Martina Navratilova and even Coco Gauff -- was on its feet before Williams even took the court. After a video narrated by Queen Latifah was shown summarizing her legendary career, Williams was introduced to the crowd as the "Greatest Of All Time" to loud cheers that continued during any break in the action throughout the match.

"The reception was really overwhelming," Williams told reporters. "It was loud and I could feel it in my chest. It was a really good feeling. It's a feeling I'll never forget, so I really -- yeah, that meant a lot to me."

It was Williams' 102nd win at Arthur Ashe Stadium -- the most by any player since it opened in 1997 -- and extended her record for Grand Slam victories by a woman to 366. After the match, Williams was celebrated with an on-court ceremony that featured Gayle King and Billie Jean King, as well as a "Thank you, Serena" video from Oprah Winfrey.

Google employees angry at back-to-office mandate after COVID cases reported in office

Google’s new return-to-office mandate is giving sleepless nights to the employees. The search giant had asked its employees to return to the office at least three days a week. Employees have reported that ever since they have joined the office, they have received a deluge of notifications from the COVID-19 infection management team. The employees are becoming concerned for their health after seeing the rising number of covid 19 cases at the workplace.

In a conversation with CNBC, some of the company’s employees revealed that ever since they started working from the office again, they are receiving notifications of infections in their email inboxes regularly. Frustrated from the ongoing conditions, employees are pouring out their anger and memes.

Significantly, Google reviewed its work-from-office policy in April and made it mandatory for its employees to be present in the office at least three days a week. However, employees have been resistant to the new guidelines as they have been working productively from home and even made the tech giant observe its highest revenue growth in 15 years.

Although Google has also offered the option of permanent work from home, it’s unknown how many requests for the same have been approved.

'Amber Heard to run off to Israel, will marry bff Eve to dodge Johnny Depp'

Amber Heard is sparking rumours of moving to Israel amid looming financial damages owed to ex-husband Johnny Depp.

The Aquaman star, who is accustomed to pay Depp $10 million after losing their April defamation battle, is looking to convert to Judaism.

Fans on Twitter are speculating that Amber is planning to marry her Jewish best friend and staunch defender Eve Barlow.

"Is Amber Heard trying to get citizenship in Israel to avoid paying Johnny Depp and not get extradited in Australia? asked Joseph Morris on Twitter, referencing to how Israel does not enforce US court verdicts in the country.

The rumours come amid Amber Heard's August trip to Israel with Barlow. The duo was spotted dining at a Tel Aviv restaurant.

Heard later visited the Holy Land in the country. Reports suggest that her tot Oonagh Paige Heard also accompanied mother. The mother-daughter duo spent almost an hour inside the facility.

Rare Rainbow 'Scarf' Cloud Stuns People In China

Nature is magical, and it occasionally allows us to witness its magic. One such video of a rare rainbow pileus (or 'scarf') cloud captured in China's Haikou City is going viral on the social media.

It has been shared by several users on Twitter. The video shows a mesmerising view of rainbow coloured scarf cloud over the city.

The video was shot on August 21, according to Mashable, and shows various cloud colours that together form a rainbow-coloured canopy, giving the sky an unusually lovely appearance.

According to World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), pileus cloud is an accessory cloud of small horizontal extent, in the form of a cap or hood above the top or attached to the upper part of a cumuliform cloud that often penetrates it.

Gautam Adani Now World's 3rd Richest, First Asian In Top 3

Few outside of India had heard of Gautam Adani just a few years ago. Now the Indian businessman, a college dropout who first tried his luck as a diamond trader before turning to coal, has become the world's third-richest person.

It's the first time an Asian person has broken into the top three of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index -- fellow citizen Mukesh Ambani and China's Jack Ma never made it that far. With a $137.4 billion fortune, Mr Adani has overtaken France's Bernard Arnault and now trails just Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos of the US in the ranking.

Mr Adani, 60, has spent the past few years expanding his coal-to-ports conglomerate, venturing into everything from data centres to cement, media and alumina. The group now owns India's largest private-sector port and airport operator, city-gas distributor and coal miner. While its Carmichael mine in Australia has been criticised by environmentalists, it pledged in November to invest $70 billion in green energy to become the world's largest renewable-energy producer.

As his empire has expanded to one of the world's largest conglomerates fuelling the remarkable wealth gains, concerns have grown over the rapid growth. Mr Adani's deals spree has been predominantly funded with debt and his empire is "deeply over-leveraged," CreditSights said in a report this month.

S Jaishankar on India-China border row: 'Problem has not been resolved'

Foreign minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said ties between India and China are going through a “very difficult phase” as he spoke about the Galwan Valley stand-off and Beijing's “disregard” for the border pacts. Jaishankar said the problem has not been resolved and that has been clearly casting a shadow.

He made the remarks while attending an event organised by the Indian community in Brazil's Sao Paulo during his first leg of a three-nation visit. He will also be visiting Paraguay and Argentina.

“We have agreements with China going back to the 1990s which prohibits bringing mass troops in the border area. They have disregarded that. You know what happened in the Galwan Valley. That problem has not been resolved and that has been clearly casting a shadow,” news agency ANI quoted the minister as saying.

Jaishankar also said a relationship cannot be a one-way street and mutual respect has to be there in order to sustain it. "They are our neighbours. Everybody wants to get along with their neighbour. In personal life and country-wise as well. But everybody wants to get along with on reasonable terms. I must respect you. You must respect me."

‘Legally Copied’ By Lockheed Martin – Was US Navy’s F-35B, China’s J-20 Derived From Soviet-Russian Aircraft?

As the F-35 stealth jets could confront Russian fighters at some point in Europe, the plane and its design were a direct derivative of a former Soviet Union project that could not be completed when the Communist superpower collapsed – the Yakovlev Yak-141.

The Short/Vertical Take-Off and Landing (SVTOL) F-35B naval variant could be called a direct derivative of the Yak-141.

The Russian company had turned to Lockheed Martin in 1991 following the USSR’s dissolution to fund around $350 million when a weakened Russia was trying to normalize ties with Washington.

It is reflected in the single vectoring nozzle located behind the center of gravity and dedicated vertically positioned thrust jets just behind the engine of the Yak-141 that is shared by the F-35B.

Assassins Creed: Why the plot to kill John Bolton is in the DNA of the Iranian regime

QAMISHLI, Syria/JEDDAH: For the past year, unbeknown to the citizens of Washington D.C., an assassin had allegedly been stalking the streets of the US capital searching for a prime target: A former high-ranking American official whose killing would shake the world and serve as a symbol of vengeance against the West.

This alleged plan was revealed to have been foiled when, on Wednesday, the US Department of Justice officially charged an Iranian citizen with plotting to kill John Bolton, a senior national security adviser under both the Bush and Trump administrations.

Shahram Poursafi was charged with use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder for hire and providing and attempting to provide material support to terrorists.
